In 2007, the first of three villas on this magical hillside property was thoughtfully restored by a long-time resident of Indonesia—an experienced physician and public health advocate dedicated to improving access to HIV and STI services across Southeast Asia. Though originally envisioned as a retirement home, that plan changed as the founder continued to work with governments and international organizations to support highly stigmatized and underserved communities. This commitment still drives much of the vision behind Villa Beji Indah today.
Three years later, two additional villas were added, transforming the space into a serene and secluded estate with 11 rooms, 7 ponds, 4 meditation pavilions, 3 swimming pools, 2 yoga shalas, and one sacred stretch of river. Tucked into nature yet just 800 meters from the Ubud Monkey Forest, Villa Beji Indah offers the perfect balance of tranquility and accessibility.
Villa Beji Indah is just 800 meters from the famous Ubud Monkey Forest—a short and scenic walk—and is surrounded by an exciting variety of restaurants and cafés. Options range from local Balinese food to Thai, Sri Lankan, French, Middle Eastern, Japanese, pizza, burgers, and vegan and gluten-free-friendly spots that cater to a wide range of dietary needs. For guests who prefer to stay in, our kitchen also offers a lunch and dinner menu prepared with care and local ingredients.
Additionally, we’re only about 20 minutes from Ubud Central, where guests can explore the vibrant cultural heart of Bali. There, you’ll find the iconic Ubud Palace, traditional Balinese dance performances, the bustling art market, boutique shopping centers, galleries, and more cafés and restaurants to enjoy along the way.
Villa Beji Indah is a nature-inspired sanctuary built on a hillside cascading down to the river. It has been designed to blend seamlessly with its surrounding environment. As part of our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the land, the property has stone stairs connecting the various villas and areas. Please note, there are many stairs on the property—some of which can be quite steep. These stone staircases, most without railings, are a key feature of the villa’s landscape and architecture, offering stunning views of the lush surroundings. There are no ramps or elevators on-site. We encourage guests to be prepared for walking and climbing stairs as part of the experience, which contributes to the peaceful, secluded atmosphere of the villa. From its very beginning, Villa Beji Indah was not only created as a tranquil retreat—but also as a platform to serve the local community. A portion of proceeds from bookings supports the Bali Peduli Foundation (www.balipeduli.org), a non-profit that works to provide HIV testing, treatment, and support services to those in need across Bali.
Since its founding, Bali Peduli has tested more than 10,000 individuals and started over 700 people on life-saving treatment through its clinics in Ubud and Denpasar. Our ongoing partnership helps ensure that more people—especially in vulnerable groups—can access the care and dignity they deserve.
Villa Beji Indah operates more like a social enterprise than a typical hospitality business. We invest in our staff, support sustainable tourism, and work hand-in-hand with the surrounding community. Our Team
Our staff come from the picturesque village of Nyuh Kuning and nearby areas. While they may not hold degrees from hospitality universities, many have a strong foundation in hospitality gained from their high school education. Over the years, they’ve developed extensive experience by working with us—most have been part of the Villa Beji Indah family for over a decade. Their warmth, dedication, and genuine care ensure every guest feels not only welcomed but truly cared for.
